I’m a licensed attorney with a passion for helping families respond to the challenges created by aging, disability, or death.
My practice is dedicated to Elder and Special Needs Law.
I'm passionate about helping clients with these issues because I've been through them myself. Both of my maternal grandparents suffered debilitating strokes that forced them to spend their last years together in a nursing home; my father-in-law is an Army veteran who has been confined to a wheelchair as a result of multiple sclerosis; and my sister grappled for many years with a mental illness that eventually took her life.
I understand how difficult it can be to have a sick family member. Most importantly, I'm familiar with the snarl of legal and healthcare issues that often follow. I provide my clients with a comprehensive range of elder and special needs services, including:
- Estate planning, wills, trusts, and advance directives
- Medicaid planning and applications
- Probate and trust administration
- Guardianship creation and litigation
- Will and Trust litigation
- Nursing home and senior housing issues
- Special needs education, trusts and Medicaid planning
Prior to focusing on elder law, I worked as a trial attorney. I defended doctors and hospitals accused of malpractice; represented criminal defendants; brought plaintiff's claims for personal injury; and pursued employment discrimination cases. I also served a one-year clerkship with the Allen Superior Court in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where I had the opportunity, among other things, to serve as judge pro tem for Allen County's mental health commitment hearings.
I'm a Boilermaker and a Hoosier, having received my undergraduate degree with honors from Purdue University and my law degree from Indiana University (yes, I root for both). I'm originally from Dillsboro, Indiana, but love brought me to the Miller Beach neighborhood of Gary, Indiana, where I live with my wife and daughter (and two dogs).
